Curly Hair

by Lines Benson

Three black stretchy scrunchies compress the blessed mess on my head.

Ferocious ethnic mane unleashed, with a pull and a tug:

Wild, undone, and untamed.

For the moment, I wear my blossomed crown, unapologetically.

Mirrored reflection reminds me; I am a beautiful, caramel queen.

Ten coral-colored gel-manicured tips massage my tender flaky scalp.

L’Oréal lathers the authentic coils, moisture replenished,

Springy roots, frayed ends; shiny and revived.

Boar bristle brush battles entangled knots.

Fine tooth metal combs section my controlled locks

Revlon wand plus sixty minutes of manipulating tricks.

Abracadabra… Balayage brownish, blonde straighten strands.

Maybe I can now fool everyone, and make them believe,

I am Jennifer Aniston.
