Domestic Escape

By Lines Benson

bitter flavor of nothingness leaks down my swollen cheek

frighteningly, unafraid, no longer meek

cocooned buffoon freed

loosened grip from emotional greed

harvested broken bones, fictional tragedies

keep your secretive philosophies

blinded by your deceitful shining sun

fake award acting Denzel Washington

Jamaican paradise, ivory wedding frill

chivalry replaced with controlling thrill

crackling cans of Coors and bottle of Jack

I leave now or in a body bag tinted black

satisfying grins as I weep, you’re a creep

please shut up and go the hell to sleep

brown L.L. Bean boots shaking to the core

scurried escape through the grey cellar door

stay calm, just repeat Psalm Twenty-Three

Accelerate. Accelerate. Accelerate.

journey to a new me awaits

your offensive tale I bid farewell

now my story I live to tell
