Love (Duty)

by Mackenzie Gregory

to pin, by grin, “it’s you,” my kin

attraction we can’t

deny.

we meet, deceit, “a wife,” discreet

so cherished we touch

the sky.

a sneak, a peek, “for us,” to speak

we dare to be bold

and fly.

carefree, no pleas “my wish,” truly

fantastically spent yet spry.

your touch, i clutch, “how long,” too much

dreams of another

drew nigh.

they eye, what’s mine “ignore,” the signs

just lie down and rest

tonight.

with grace, and haste, “don’t go,” i chase

bent by the pressure

complied.

no plan, we ran, “i do,” the man

for time to make up

a lie.

devout, you doubt, “repent,” they shout

those words are our only

goodbye.

a glance, a dance, “my love,” no chance

i stare at my husband

and cry.
