The Stars of Midnight

by Miranda Vitulli

In the dark of midnight,

I lay down.

The crisp air gently touches my body,

and the humid heat fills up my lungs

as I breathe, a soft gentle deep breath,

and my heartbeat rests.

With the stars beaming out into the night,

each a white light,

sparkling into the night

each in their own spotlight.

What a glorious sight!

The sound of crickets and the hum of toads surround me.

Each singing, and dancing their own dance,

all together at last.

Above the crescent moon sits along the stars,

gently smiling a sideways smile.

Nothing is more beautiful than this very night.
